Like the children in many other countries, the Chinese children receive numerous teachings of how to be a good person with the use of stories since the earliest childhood. One of these stories reads like this...
Kongrong is a five-year-old kid with five brothers. One day, his father brought the children a bag of pears. There were big and small pears. Kongrong’s father offered him a big pear, but Kongrong rejected. His father was very surprised because Kongrong loved pears. His father asked him, "Kongrong, why didn’t you take the large one?" Kongrong answered, "I prefer a smaller one and leave the bigger pears to my brothers." Kongrong’s father was very moved because Kongrong is so considerate to the others at such a young age. In China, it is a virtue to let others enjoy what one has right to. |
